Baby Quilt is Done!

Commissioned Quilt #4 is finished! I finally put the last stitches in the binding on Monday. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

If your wondering why the quilt is hanging from my shower curtain, it's because it was too windy to hang it on the cloths line outside :) . This pattern came from one of Alex Anderson's baby quilt books. This paticular pattern is called Grandma's Favorite.

The lady that asked me to do the quilt wanted it to be able to work for either a boy our a girl. That is why I used the colors yellow, cream, green, and blue.

In the sashing, I quilted free motion stars with two curving lines flowing in between them to make them look like they were floating. The two curvy lines turned out to kind of look like ribbon.

For the nine patch blocks, I just quilted in the ditch so it wouldn't distract from the pattern.

I delivered the quilt to the lady and she was very pleased with it. She thought it was really cute. She also said that she would need me to make another one for her for August! Here we go again :) ! It's a good thing that I love to sew!

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year! :)

Christmas Gifts

Tis the season of giving! This year I didn't have much time to get my gifts but a managed to make some for four of my girl friends. My grandma showed me a magazine with a pattern for a quick and easy fleece muffler. We had a day off of school last Friday so I took time to make one for each of my friends.

The pattern only used one layer of fleece, but I decided it would look cool to have a two sided one using two different colors. I got a different color for each scarf and then used the same gray on the back of each.

Each scarf has a slit in it so you can put the other side of the scarf through it. That way it stays wrapped around your neck. I gave them to my friends today and they really liked them! The scarves were really easy to make and made really good gifts.

Have a Merry Christmas!!! :)

Commissioned Baby Quilt #4

Last weekend I was able to make some progress on the baby quilt that I was commissioned to do.

I almost got the top of it together. All it needs now is the borders.

I have two days of Thanksgiving vacation left, so hopefully I can get the top done! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Snow is one of my favorite parts of the winter season. I love to watch it fall and see how it sparkles. As I walked out of school today it was just barely snowing, but as a got home, it started to get harder and harder. It is now 5:30 and it is still snowing! I absolutely love it!!! Have a good evening. :)

In Progress

One of the things that I like to do to relax is play piano. I have been taking piano lessons for four years. I really enjoy it. Right now I am working on learning to play a piece called "Angel Eyes" by Jim Brickman. It is very beautiful.

It is also very long; five pages to be exact. I can play about half of it but the last half gets very complicated.

Hopefully, in the future, I will be able to play it the whole way through.

If you would like to listen to it just click on this link. It will take you to YouTube were you can watch a video of Jim Brickman play "Angel Eyes". He plays it a little differently than he originally wrote it, but you can get the general idea of what it sounds like. Enjoy!!! :)

Great Movie!!!

Just this past Sunday, my family and I went to see a new movie that came out in theaters last Friday. It is called "Fireproof". It is a wonderful movie by the makers of "Facing the Giants". The message is really good. When you get the chance you need to go and see this! :)

High School

Hey everyone! Sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time! School has taken up all the free time that I had during the summer. This is my first year in high school and I have found that is much more difficult than the middle school. There is a lot more work involved. I do like challenges though. Hopefully this will be a good year and I will be able to get a lot accomplished! :)

New Smile

Just yesterday at 9:30 AM I got my braces off! I am very happy with the results. My orthodontist is very nice and is very good at what he does.
I hadn't had gum in two years and three months so that was the first thing I chewed on. Then for supper I had corn on the cob and this time I didn't have to have my dad cut it off the cob. It was really good. :)

I also want to say thank you to my mom and dad for paying for my braces so I could have a beautiful smile. Love you guys!

Even though I had to have them on for a good amount of time, the waiting paid off. I'll be smiling all the time now!!! :)

It's Here!!!

The raffle quilt is back home! Boy, does it look beautiful! It was sent away to be quilted by one of my friends, Laurie.

This is me carefully opening the box containing the quilt.

This is my grandpa and I unfolding the quilt anxiously waiting to see the inside.

And this is the whole quilt. I absolutely love how Laurie quilted it. It is perfect for the quilt.

Thank you again Laurie! You always do a magnificent job! :)

You can see pictures of it on Laurie's blog by clicking on the link above! I can't wait to see it in person when it gets home. Great job Laurie!!! :)

Laundry Day

Most people absolutly hate doing the laundry but I on the other hand don't really mind doing it at all. Since my mom works during the day, my brother and I have to do all the chores. My chore for today is laundry.

We actually just got a new front loading washer and dryer. They are made by G&E so they are supposed to save a lot of energy.

Folding the laundry is probably my least favorite part of doing laundry. But it has to be done. So to make it more enjoyable I listen to my music on my ipod. That makes the time go faster.

I hope everyone has a great day doing whatever you might be doing. :)

New Project

I now have a new project underway. A lady that had me make a baby quilt for her now wants another one. I already have the fabrics picked out and some of the pieces cut.

The colors are pastels in blue, green, and yellow and some creams.

The pattern that I chose to do requires little teeny tiny squares and a lot of them! Why did I chose that pattern one? I have know idea! Hopefully in the end it will all come together. :)

I'm Back!!!

Hey Everyone! Sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time. I have been very busy this summer with a lot of things.

One of the things that I have been doing is voluntering at one of the community hospitals in my area. I've been working along with one of my best friends in the gift shop there. It is a lot of fun!

I have also been at marching band. We have been doing parades and different perfomances. This past week I was at band camp for marching band. All week we stand out in the hot sun and start to put our show together for the season. Its a lot of hard work but it is worth playing awesome music.

Just this past weekend I was at Quilt Oddessey with my grandma. We had such a great time taking classes and just hanging out with eachother.

Dance also takes up a good chunk of my time.

I have also been babysitting the whole summer. It can be very draining sometimes but I do get paid.

So as you can see I have been rather busy lately. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with blogging from now on. :)

The Art of Dance

Dance is one of the activities that I am involved in. I started dancing when I was four years old. Ballet is one form of dance that I do and the one that I have done for the longest. I started out in shoes that are called slippers.

Slippers are a softer shoe that younger dancers use when starting to dance. They are made out of leather or canvas. The ones in the picture are made out of leather. I prefer leather because they won't wear out as fast. Older dancers use slippers too. They are required to take at least one class with slippers.

As you can see, I've worn a hole straight through the big toe of one of my slippers. Time to get new ones!

Once dancers are old enough and are at a high enough level in their dancing, a dancer will use pointe shoes.

Pointe shoes are a harder shoe that will enable the dancer to dance on top of their toes. A pointe shoe has a hard box at the end of the shoe and a hard shank (or sole) on the bottom to help support the dancer's foot. If you are constantly on top of your toes they are going to hurt, so dancers will put toe pads in the shoe to help cushion their toes when they go on to pointe.

Another form of dance that I just recently starting taking is jazz.

Those are jazz shoes. Jazz is a form of dance that is more modern and the moves are more free form. Pop music is what is danced to. It is really fun and is something that makes me feel relaxed.

Dance is something that I enjoy doing and hope to enjoy for years to come. :)

Beach Relaxation

Hi everyone! I just got back from a wonderful vacation at the beach. I hadn't been to the beach since I was nine years old. So this was a treat!

My family and I went to Long Beach Island, NJ and stayed there for Thursday, Friday, and part of Saturday. It was sunny the whole time we were there, perfect beach weather.

This is a picture of the hotel we stayed in from the beach. It was very nice and clean and it was great because you didn't need to walk far at all to get to the beach.

The water was clear and cold. The waves got bigger and bigger as the day went on.

My brother and I enjoyed boogie boarding and splashing about in the waves close to the shore.

Friday morning we all got up at five o'clock and rushed outside to the beach to watch the sunrise. I was really tired but it was worth it!

The scene was absolutley breathtaking! I just kept on snapping pictures to try and capture the beauty of it.

That night we went to the lighthouse that was on the island.

In this picture I was able to capture the lighthouse and the sunset too

I had so much fun on my vacation and wish I could have stayed longer. But I have to come back to reality sometime.

Have a great week everyone! :)

It is FINISHED!!!!!

The moment that I have been waiting for has finally come. The raffle quilt is finished! Or should I say the top is finished? I absolutley love the way it turned out. Now I'm going to ship it off to Laurie so she can quilt it. Get ready Laurie! It's coming your way! :)

It is hard to get a good picture of the whole thing because it is so huge. It is almost bigger than a king sized sheet.

This was a fun but long project to work on. I'm happy that it is for such a good cause. :)

Stash Building

Who doesn't love fabric?! Well I certaintly do! I started building my stash just a couple of months ago, so its not very big. I love bright and colorful fabrics, especially batiks. (I really, really, really love batiks!) This is a picture of my stash so far.

My grandma probably told most of you that I got something special for my birthday. Well what I got was very special. It was fabrics from my most favorite line of fabrics. They are designed by Joel Dewberry. I just really love the colors in them.

I also got BATIKS!!!!! (can you tell I like batiks) They were great also. Thank you Grandma!!!!

I aim to keep building my stash with lots of the bright and colorful fabrics I love. :)

Summer Project

Hey everyone! I'm sorry that I haven't posted for quite awhile. My schedule can get very full and it is hard to get any spare time.
This post is about my bedroom. This past summer I was getting bored with just plain pink walls, so one day I thought of what I could do to spruce them up a little bit. I decided to paint tangerine and brown squares all over my walls. Then painting my walls lead me to redoing my whole bedroom.
The first thing that I had to do was make patterns for my squares. Then I had to make sure that the template for the square was level on my wall so that I didn't have any lopsided-squares (that would drive me insane if they were). And then I had to tape the whole square off so that I would get a nice neat edge. This took a lot of painters tape :) !

This picture shows what one whole wall looks like.

The process did take the whole summer, but I am very pleased with the outcome. It is my favorite place to be in my house. The next pictures are shots of the finished product. (it's a little dark because I took the picture at night and the big globe of light is a pink paper lantern that is on.)

This picture is of my desk. It was my dad's drawing table that he let me use and paint. I used the paint that I have on my walls and hand painted a kind of tree pattern on it.

In the future I would like to go into the field of interior design. This was a really fun summer project for me to do! :)
